5 tips to help you reach your destination and achieve that dream you always wanted to

Every time I watch the movie Pursuit of Happiness, I feel stronger. The movie gives us so many reasons to not quit. My favourite dialogue from the movie is –

“Don’t ever let someone tell you, you can’t do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you got to protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they want to tell you you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period.”

I am sure most of us can relate to this quote. How many times have we been told that we cannot do it. I have been told a million times. When I started working, so many people told me I will not be able to survive in the city of Mumbai. I don’t know how I did it for eight years and still counting. When I decided to start my blog, initially I got a lot of encouragement. But when I actually started it, I saw those smirks which screamed “there are so many like her, she can never make it.” Ofcoure it affected me, I wanted to quit and go. But then I thought of what a friend once tole me, Penaaz, always remember why you started. There was no looking back.

The reason I am writing this blog today, is to tell you guys that dreams do come true. I am going to start a new job soon. The role that I will be in is something that I have always wanted to do. Never really thought it will happen soon, but it did. I am excited and nervous but yes, it is something I have ticked off my bucket list 🙂

Just putting down 5 things that I think we all can do to ensure we reach our destination and make some of our dreams come true. These are all through personal experiences and I hope you guys can relate:

  1. Choose one goal:

I know we have multiple things to do because life is short and all that. But it is so much better to chase one dream at a time. When you are setting out to do something, focus on just one goal. Work hard towards it, accomplish that and then move to the next. The moment we start working on multiple things, our mind gets wired and nothing is done. I used to do multiple things at the same time. However, I chose to learn from my own failures and decided to do one thing at a time.

2. Grab the right opportunities:

Well all of us have heard people tell us that when opportunities come knocking on your door, grab them with open arms. It is partially true. Every opportunity cannot be right for you. Some make a difference and some don’t. It is important to understand which one will get you closer to your dream. I have grabbed some really bad opportunities and got stuck with it for a long time. Moving out of it was difficult. But once I did, I tried not to choose another wrong one.

3.  Keep Calm:

Nothing works out when you are hyper and hard on yourself. Sometimes we want few things so badly that we forget to peace out. The overthinking causes more harm than good. I have been a crazy thinker. Even today, at times, I do overthink. But that never ever helps. If things are tough, we make it tougher by over analyzing it. So sit down, make yourself some coffee and let time pass. It can calm your nerves and you will think better.

4. Don’t look behind:

There is a reason why past is called past. We are not going there anymore. We all have failed. But those failures are left behind in the past. We do not have to revisit them and make ourselves feel bad or incompetent. I used to sit and dig into my past and end up crying. Those days were miserable. I felt nothing is meant for me and I am completely useless. But did that take me anywhere? No. So no looking behind.

5. Start:

We have this habit of always pushing things to the next day. I do. We do not want to start something because we always think tomorrow is a better day and today is not the right time. But you will never find the so called right time. So focus, believe in yourself and just start.

Life will always keep throwing difficulties at us. But we need to tackle them. I am not saying that these 5 things will make your life perfect. But it can help you get some direction. I hope we all reach where we wanted to.
