2 ways to make that blouse piece count

When it comes to wearing a saree, most of us pay a lot of attention to the styling of the same. The drape, accessories, shoes, hairstyle and most importantly the blouse. There has been a huge makeover of the humble blouse, in the past decade. With a lot of designers reviving the saree, blouse has become the center of attention. The cut, the pattern, the flow, the length, everything has changed.

Since childhood, I have seen my mother using the blouse piece which we get along with the saree for her blouse. I always thought this is how it is supposed to be. Once I started liking wearing sarees, that is when I realized the concept of mix and match. I have hardly used the blouse piece that I got with the saree. There was always a contrast blouse made for each saree.

Now what happens to those innumerable pieces lying in the cupboard? They are absolutely gorgeous and stylish too. I picked up two blouse pieces, one an ikkat and the other a kalamkari, and decided to give them a makeover.

This blue ikkat blouse piece was turned into a shirt. Something you can wear to work or a brunch with the girls.

The kalamkari became a crop top, which can be worn with a skirt or high waist trousers.

Apart from this, you can also make stoles and bags with your leftover blouse pieces. So go ahead and hunt for them, now!
