Summer fun with Kalamkari – Style them in 4 easy ways

Temperatures have started rising in the city and it is surely not making things comfortable 😦 Summer is here and a lot of things need to change. I have already stocked my fridge with loads of fruits, juices and curd. As much as we need to keep our body cool from inside, a lot of thought needs to be given to our wardrobe as well.

Just because it is summer, we do not have to scream bold colours everyday. Keep a subtle balance of bright, floral, graphics, pastels and nudes. Not to forget, cotton is the ultimate fabric for this season. However, khadi, sheer and linen are also summer favourites.

One textile/fabric which can be the pick of the season, is the humble Kalamkari. Hand painted or hand blocked in cotton, this fabric has themes of floral, Ramayana, Mahabharata, animals so on and so forth. I have styled few Kalamkari dupattas by Ethnic Dori , to make Indian wear a lot of fun.

  1. Wear it as a cover-up:

Dupattas are not boring. Turn your Kalamkari dupatta into a cover up and wear it with your little black dress, bikini, jeans or kurta. This adds a lot of pop to your outfit and definitely a great way to kick off the summer season.

2. Try it with a Maxi Dress:

Maxi dresses are a favourite during summer. They are breezy and extremely comfortable for a long day. Add a twist to it by throwing a Kalamkari dupatta over it. Choose a light coloured dress for this look.

3. Belt it up with your Kurta:

A dupatta always adds a lot of glamour to your Indian wear. They have their own individuality and is a style statement in itself. Add some attitude to your regular kurti look by belting your dupatta. This adds edge to the entire look.

4. Keep it classic:

Keep it simple and classic. Wear a kurta with churidar and drape it with a beautiful Kalamkari dupatta.

Be all fresh and beautiful with Indian weaves and fabric this summer season. Happy Summers!
